Complaint 188172 Details

There was a listing that was screwy by a "Joanne Baylis" host - when we tried to book using credit card info, it sent us to another property and couldn't book. Of course there is no way of automatically contacting AirBnB "unless there are safety concerns" so we just hit "Contact Host" and sent an inquiry. Of course they stated the property was available and would need booking within 24 hours (we were in a rush to book for NYE). We received a very slick e-mail below that had all branding which came from "automated@airbnb" (which we have received legit e-mails from before) but had wiring information to this Barclays bank.
After completing the transaction we sent e-mail to AirBnB regarding confirmation and of course they tell us there is no reservation for this property.
Our frustration with AirBnB is there is no warning for members of scams of these type and they say watch out for automated@airbnb which is incorrect since legit e-mails come from there as well. We were duped out of $3,180 which was to be 3 days in a villa with multiple people who already gave us their money. Sad.
